KEYS TO DELIVER CHALLENGE TO BLAIR CONSTITUENCY HOUSE
KEYS FOR SEDGEFIELD CAMPAIGN: PRESS INFORMATION - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Wednesday 13 April at 11am Reg Keys will personally deliver a letter of challenge to Tony Blair or his agent at Blair's constituency home at Trimdon, Co Durham. The house and the footpath leading past it are protected by electronic security gates and armed police.
Keys is standing as an independent candidate against Blair in Sedgefield. He will be asking Blair to face him in a public debate on the legitimacy of the Iraq war, in which his son Tom was killed.
'The Iraq issue will not go away' says Keys in his letter of challenge. 'Such a catastrophic political blunder cannot merely be put to one side. 85 British soldiers have returned home in coffins, hundreds are severely wounded and mentally traumatised, and all this was based on false information for which nobody has been made accountable including Blair.'
Martin Bell, former Independent MP for Tatton, who will be going to the Blair house, with Reg Keys, says:
'If Tom Keys had been killed by enemy action in a just and legitimate war, his father would have grieved, but he would have accepted it. But the weapons of mass destruction turned out not to exist and the war not to have been legitimate, and Reg Keys is seeking personal accountability from Blair.'

Dear Tony Blair,
Due to the on-going controversy over legality of the Iraq war I would welcome the opportunity to meet you personally and discuss the issues including the lack of WMD found in Iraq.
This was the remit on which you deployed British forces into the Gulf, not regime change or the imposing of democracy.
85 British soldiers have returned home in coffins and hundreds are severely wounded and mentally traumatised, all based on false information for which nobody has been made accountable including yourself.
I most strongly feel, bearing in mind that I also countersigned for my son Thomas to join the army as he was only 16, that you have betrayed the trust of parents and the oath of allegiance these brave young men signed and pledged to your government.
Why has there been no apology to the 85 families whose sons have died in this controversial conflict? Why has there been no accountability?
Although this is a very special issue between the two of us, I would like to meet you in a public forum, chaired by a mutually agreed person, where we can discuss these matters.
Other candidates could be invited if you think this is appropriate.
The Iraq issue will not go away - such a catastrophic political blunder cannot merely be put to one side.
Yours sincerely,
Reg Keys
